Wallet gives your finance team a controlled way to fund partner payments, receive invoice proceeds, manage currencies, and withdraw available funds without leaving the Avrix workflow. Airwallex provides and operates the connected payment account. Avrix connects that account to your Agreements, invoices, permissions, and reconciliation.
Who needs this#
Content Owner and Content Seller finance teams using Finance → Wallet or Finance → Payout accounts when those features are enabled for their company.
The important boundary#
Airwallex is the payment-services provider. It operates the connected account, holds the Wallet funds under the terms that apply to your company, processes supported transfers and conversions, and carries out required verification.
Avrix is not a bank and does not hold your Wallet funds. Avrix provides the commercial record and the controls around it: who may act, which invoice is being paid, how movements are shown in the console, and how payment status is checked against provider records.
Retail customer money stays outside Avrix. A buyer pays the Content Seller through the seller's own storefront and payment processor. Wallet is for supported business-to-business movements after the relevant report, Agreement, and invoice exist; it is not the Content Seller's retail checkout.
How invoice money moves#
The diagram keeps the retail sale separate from partner settlement. The invoice transfer sends the full invoice amount from the Content Seller Wallet to the Content Owner Wallet. Avrix commission is then a separate Content Owner-side movement.
The retail payment does not automatically fund Wallet. The Content Seller adds business funds separately and pays an eligible invoice when it is ready.
Content Seller: fund and pay#
- Open Finance → Wallet → Add funds when Wallet is enabled and verification is complete.
- Choose an available deposit currency and follow the Airwallex bank-transfer instructions. Add funds means sending a bank transfer from your business bank account; it is not a card charge or a transfer of retail checkout receipts by Avrix.
- Wait until the deposit is credited and appears in the available balance. A submitted or pending transfer is not yet available money.
- Review the eligible Content Owner invoice, its currency, and the available balance.
- Select Pay now. The invoice amount moves to the Content Owner Wallet through Airwallex and the transaction records update as processing completes.
Invoice eligibility, verification, permissions, balance, currency, and provider status can all affect whether Pay now is available.
Content Owner: receive and reconcile#
When the invoice payment is processed, the full invoice amount arrives in the Content Owner Wallet. Avrix commission is not withheld from that transfer and is not an extra Content Seller charge. It is collected separately on the Content Owner side and therefore appears as its own Wallet movement.
Reconcile the incoming invoice payment and separate commission record before treating the remaining balance as ready for your next action. If you want to move available funds outside Wallet, select a saved payout account and submit a withdrawal.
Five terms that are easy to confuse#
- Add funds creates or shows deposit instructions so your company can send money from its business bank account into Wallet.
- Balance is the provider-reported amount held in each Wallet currency. Available and pending amounts are not interchangeable.
- Conversion exchanges one available Wallet currency for another using the Airwallex quote shown before confirmation. It is a separate action, not an automatic part of paying an invoice or withdrawing.
- Payout account is a saved bank destination. Saving one does not move money and does not pay an invoice.
- Withdrawal is the instruction that sends available Wallet funds to a compatible saved payout account.
Verification, availability, cost, and timing#
Wallet actions are available only when enabled for your company and supported for the Airwallex entity, country, account capability, currency, and transfer route serving it.
- Airwallex may request business, ownership, or identity information before enabling an account or a specific capability.
- Deposit accounts, supported currencies, conversions, payout routes, and withdrawal destinations vary. Do not assume a country or currency is available until the console confirms it. Avrix onboards companies only where a Full Connected Account is available — see Supported countries and Airwallex countries.
- Bank, transfer, payout, intermediary, or foreign-exchange costs may apply. Review the live instructions or quote before confirming; Avrix does not promise fee-free movement or a particular foreign-exchange rate.
- Deposit, invoice-transfer, conversion, and withdrawal timing depends on the route, provider review, banks, cut-off times, and other checks. Status in Wallet and transaction history is the reliable record; displayed estimates are not guarantees.
How the workflow reduces operational risk#
The controls are designed to make sensitive actions attributable and recoverable:
- Airwallex payment authentication protects provider-side Wallet access and sensitive actions.
- Avrix company permissions restrict who can view or move funds.
- Withdrawals require a fresh identity check in addition to the relevant permission.
- Saved payout destinations are checked against the active Wallet, and bank identifiers are masked in normal lists.
- Repeated invoice, commission, conversion, and withdrawal requests use duplicate-movement protection where the flow supports safe retrying.
- Avrix records the acting company, user, invoice, provider reference, and status for supported movements.
- Signed provider updates and scheduled reconciliation refresh transaction and transfer status; unresolved items remain visible for follow-up.
These safeguards reduce mistakes and duplicate movements, but they do not remove provider, banking, compliance, or operational risk. Check the final status before acting on a movement.
Trust, regulation, and safeguarding#
The Airwallex entity named in your account terms provides the regulated payment service. Its licences, safeguarding method, account terms, and available protections depend on your jurisdiction and product. Confirm the applicable entity and current terms for your company rather than applying one region's position globally.
Airwallex publishes its current licensing and regulatory information and explains how it protects customer money by jurisdiction.
EEA example — customers served by Airwallex (Netherlands) B.V.: Airwallex states that this entity is licensed as an electronic money institution and supervised by De Nederlandsche Bank. It also states that customer funds are kept in designated safeguarding accounts held by a separate customer-funds foundation. This example applies only where that entity serves the customer. The applicable entity, terms, and protections can differ elsewhere.
Safeguarding is a regulatory method for separating eligible customer funds from the payment provider's operating funds. It is not bank deposit insurance or a bank deposit-guarantee scheme.
Optional shared Wallet linking#
When enabled, two Avrix companies operated by the same legal entity can request to use one Airwallex Wallet. Both companies must participate in the linking process, and Avrix platform operations reviews the legal-entity match before activation.
A shared Wallet is one Wallet: one set of currency balances, one transaction history, and shared payout accounts. It does not create a separate balance for each linked company. Actions remain attributed to the company and user that performed them. If the Wallet still contains funds, unlinking requires support because the shared balance cannot be split automatically.
You are ready when…#
Your team can explain the retail-versus-partner-payment boundary, identify the applicable Airwallex entity, distinguish funding from withdrawal, reconcile the gross invoice receipt and separate Content Owner-side commission, and verify final status before relying on any movement.
